An amazing offer from No.7!

This offer was so good I felt the need to share it with you all.  Now I am trying to avoid buying items from No.7 as their stance on animal testing is a little ambiguous but I was buying a gift for my sister and noted the following offer.

This week the No.7 money off vouchers are back!  Spend £5 in any Boots store and get your vouchers for £5 off skincare and £3 off make-up.

Heres the clever science though.  No.7 is currently on a 3 for 2 offer so if you shop wisely you can not only get £8 off by using both vouchers but also get a free item.  Note your 2 most expensive items (ie. not the free one) need to be one from each range, skincare and make-up.

BETTER STILL, buy 2 make-up items and you will qualify for their free Art Deco box of goodies worth over £20 too! (these may be subject to availability as I can not see them online but I did receive one in store today with my purchases).  Not the best vlog ever but to see what I am talking about you can watch this video.

In short, if you have any No.7 purchases you were looking to make, now is the best time to do it!

Pick your perfect match make-up online!

As I am now experimenting with the Marks and Spencer’s make-up range I went onto their website to see what else they had in their range that I would no doubt have missed in my brief flick through foundations in store.  I was very excited to find they offer a virtual makeover online

You input your own photo and then you can use their colour wheels to pick a foundation, concealer, blusher and bronzer that best suit your skin tone.  Now I am not saying it is a perfect service as I am yet to go in and try the items which seem to match what I would look for colour wise.

When you pick your colours it will alter your photo with your choice.  It will also tell you what range the colour your chose is from and how much it would cost to buy.  It can seem a little confusing if you see 2 of the same colour e.g. ivory, however they will be from different ranges and will look slightly different on the “skin” in your photo.

You can also try different looks on your photo – now this service I didn’t find fantastic but it does still give you a vague idea of what you would look like with smokey eyes, a darker lipstick, longer lashes etc.

Definitely worth a look if you are planning a trip to M&S as it will give you a rough idea of what you may wish to look for or ask the make-up assistant to demonstrate for you.  In my opinion this online service will save you time and you may actually have good fun playing with it too.

I did try to hit the sales today and I had some plans of what items I wanted to get from the MUA stand in Superdrug but sadly despite stocking the range, the store didn’t have what I was actually looking for.  I shall have to check out the bigger store in Belfast when I am up later in the week.  Fingers crossed they will have it there and I can let you know if I give the items a thumbs up or down 🙂

Tis the season to be jolly and buy new make-up!

Tis the season to be jolly and as I had run out of foundation I decided to do a little bit of make-up shopping with some of my Christmas money.  As you may know I am currently trading over all of my toiletries and cosmetics to animal friendly ones.  This was a perfect opportunity to hunt down something new that matched my 2013 plan to be free from animal testing products.

I headed over to Marks and Spencer’s to grab some Christmas food and while I was there checked out their make-up section.  I was pleased to see the section was very quiet and so it was easy to look around at all the lovely leaping bunny endorsed items!

I think my favourite item was their moose foundation however I decided not to buy it as I felt I would end up using it very, very quickly.  I really need something that gives me a measurable amount from a pump to prevent me using too much.

In the end I went for the Ultimate Wear Long Lasting Foundation from their Autograph range.  It has a medium – full coverage and an SPF of 25.  Now I do find the colour match good which is always a big one for me.  I’m stereotypically Irish and paler than a bottle of milk!  I went for Ivory.   The high SPF is also a great factor and it stays on well for the day however I have to say it is a bit oily when putting on.  At £12 it is a snip but due to the oiliness, next time I may try one of their more expensive ranges or the moose and restrain myself when using it.  For now though, I am happily converted over to them and will definitely be trying more of their range soon!  In fact, my blusher is almost done….

(excuse the paleness of the bottle – this is the flash, the foundation is actually slightly darker)Image

I also bought some Barry M.  I will admit, I only wanted the gold nail polish to do a red and gold manicure on myself but to get the polish I had to spend £6 on products.  I went for the dazzle dust.  Having been told by the girl in my class who I trust for advice on make-up (she was already very accomplished in it before she started the course!) that gold really makes my eyes pop I went for a gold dust and also a pink one as I really enjoy wearing pinks.

I was very impressed with the pigments and can see myself wearing these often as I do love a bit of glitter.  You will see they look great in the pot and that the colour shows up fantastically on the back of my hand.  The polish also did not disappoint.  It is slightly textured to the touch when dry and gives great coverage on and so is fine to use over other dark colours.  I wouldn’t advise wearing it on its own like in my photos as personally i don’t think it looks great alone, it did however look brilliant when I first tried it on over red.

I also managed to nab myself a No.7 Light-up mirror reduced from £50 to £19.99 (or £15.50 ish for me after my staff discount).  So pleased with the price I got it for and having used it before at my sisters I knew I would not be dissapointed.  I will do a seperate blog on it at another point and for now I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and may Santa bring you all lots of cruelty free toiletries and cosmetics to fill your 2013 with.

xx

And there we have it, the end of college for 2012!

For me, 2012 was the year I was going to start changing my life.  I had not long left London and wasn’t able to get a job doing what I had been doing in the past and so I decided to retrain to give myself a better opportunity to be my own boss.

As of today I have only been in college just short of 4 months but I now have my distinctions in Facials, Head Massage, Self Tan Application (Spray and Mitt with body exfoliation) and care of today Individual and Strip Eyelashes!

Not a bad start for changing ones life ey?  I have also worked hard to leave myself in a position that my first week back I can do my summatives in Make-up, tinting and eyebrow shaping.  I can see my poor mother having to come in for a visit to have all these treatments done in one day.  She will be more than glad to of course and I will be ever greatful for the fact she will help me complete some more summatives.

I am feeling so positive about 2013.  Everything is heading the way I need it to be to get myself to the point where I own my own business before 30 (I don’t care that it will be a new business that I will still be working hard to establish, it will still be mine!).  I want to create something my children will be proud of in the future and the littley LOVES the fact her mumma is training to be a beauty therapist and she frequently asks when I will own my own salon for her to come and work in *smile*.  At least now seeing my grades heading in the right direction I can honestly tell her “not long wee princess, not long.”

So here is to all things Christmas and to the New year and all it will bring for us all 🙂

Make the changes you desire in life to see the changes you have dreamed of.

Busy times and Birthday times!

I haven’t posted in a while as I vanished off to London for a trip to see some friends and then this week it was the run up to the littleys birthday.  She had a family party at home and then one at the play centre with her school friends.

When I was in London I decided to take advantage of the female company that is my sister and do her eye-make up.  I would say it was good practice but she pulled such faces anytime i went near her that it wasn’t exatly the average practice session.  I did however manage to get it done and I do think her eyes turned out quite well.

As you can see she has no other make-up on as that would have taken a year with the fact she hates people touching her face.  I did her eyes in purple as it is her favorite colour but not one she would ever wear on her eyes.  I used a no7 pallet that she had from one of their Christmas gift sets 2 years ago.

I still have to do 2 more formatives in make-up in college before I can do my exam and although I feel I will pass my exam I don’t feel that I know as much about make-up application as I would like to know.  I would love to put myself through a bridal make-up course in the summer as an add on.

Once I returned from London my first day back in college I managed to get my spray tan summative done and I am pleased to say that I got another distinction!  I did however miss the theory exam for spray tanning as it was supposed to be January but they moved it to one of the days I was in London woops.  I will take the exam tomorrow with the others who need to resit, so fingers crossed I can pass it and that will be me signed off for the spray tan module.

My dreams of that spray tan tent at home are slowly getting closer to reality!
